Neurology
Hello Welcome to the Department of Neurology at the UC Irvine School of Medicine. Although relatively young, our department is among the most dynamic academic Neurology Departments in the country. Our goal is to provide outstanding health care to patients with diverse neurological diseases while training highly competent, compassionate and professional clinical neurologists. The department is also ranked among the Top Ten Departments of Neurology for research by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Areas of active and exciting basic and clinical research include stroke, epilepsy, brain aging and Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, and stem cell therapy for neurological disorders. The wide-ranging activities of our department take place at the UCI Medical Center in Orange, the UCI campus in Irvine and our major affiliate, the VA Medical Center in Long Beach. In general, neurological disorders are associated with a significant physical, emotional, and financial burden. Though tremendous growth and progress in the Neurosciences has occurred over the last decade, a considerable amount of work remains to be done. The UC Irvine Department of Neurology is proud to participate in this endeavor by virtue of our uncompromising commitment to excellence in Clinical, Educational, and Research pursuits. Our department’s mission is to provide, best care possible for all patients with neurological disorders. The other arm of the mission is to provide a conducive environment with flexibility for individualized neurology training for future neurology physicians, a comprehensive education and clinical experience such that our graduates possess sound clinical judgment, excellent skills, utmost professionalism and highest knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders.
