Dr. Porto received his M.D. degree from Rutgers Medical School (now Robert Wood Johnson of Medicine), completed his internship and residency in OB/GYN at L.A. County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and his fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at U.C. Irvine & Long Beach Memorial Medical Centers. He is board certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine. He currently serves as Professor & Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California Irvine and also directs the UCI Center for Fetal Evaluation.
Dr. Porto was listed in Orange Coast Magazine as one of Orange County's Top Doctors (2000), and was selected by his peers to be included in the Best Doctors in America: National Edition (1992-93, 1994-95, and 1998), as well as the Pacific Region (1996-97). He was one of only three Orange County based obstetricians selected by over 11,000 physicians surveyed for this listing. Dr. Porto was also listed in Good Housekeeping magazine's Best Doctors for Women, 1997.
Research Interests
The author of 10 book chapters and over 80 research articles and abstracts, he is also co-editor of the current textbook Diagnostic Obstetrical Ultrasound. His research interests focus in the areas of fetal diagnosis and therapy, antepartum fetal testing, recurrent pregnancy loss, multifetal pregnancies and preterm birth prevention.
