Residency Program

Overview

The residency training program is supervised by Dr. Carol Major, who oversees all educational activities for the department. Well over 300 completed residency applications are reviewed annually, with a selection committee granting approximately 75 interviews for six first year resident positions. Applicant interviews are conducted during the months of November, December, and January by two department faculty and one resident. Our program meets the formal standards of the American Medical Association, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and sub-specialty boards of Gynecologic Oncology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and Urogynecology.

Objective

The program offers a solid foundation of reproductive pathophysiology in the obstetric, gynecologic, endocrinologic, and oncologic aspects of women's health care. Based on this foundation, training continues with progressive resident responsibility for operative and medical management and surgical technique.

While predominantly clinical in scope, the program is strongly flavored by academic and research exposure. Residents are encouraged and expected to participate actively in teaching and research. Upon completion of the program, the graduate will be able to function as a specialist provider and consultant for all reproductive aspects of the female patient.
