Clinical Interests

Dr. Burger, a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist, is one of the most "up and coming" gynecologic oncologists in the United States. He has a strong and growing reputation in academic gynecologic oncology, as well as a strong track record of achievement in both the clinical and basic sciences. Dr. Burger's expertise and clinical interests are in the areas of women's health, gynecologic cancers, prevention and screening. Dr. Burger is an expert in performing radical pelvic surgery, including gastrointestinal and urologic procedures.

Research Interests

Dr. Burger's research interests are principally in the field of carcinogenesis, biomarkers and prevention, particularly as they relate to epithelial ovarian cancer and cervical cancer. This work is being conducted in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, some through collaboration with other principal investigators at UCI and in national cooperative groups.

Dr. Burger's expertise in the medical informatics, database design and management, and statistical methods has benefited major projects within the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. For example, he established and coordinated a clinical and research database system, which is now networked across four medical campuses. In 1996, he was selected as the only candidate member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO) to be appointed to the Informatics Committee of that organization.
