Clinical Foundations Course – This
course is offered to 1st and 2nd
year UCI medical students focusing on teaching basic
interview and clinical exam skills. If you are

Third year Family Medicine
Clerkship - This program offers 3rd
year UCI medical students a hands on experience in
clinical family medicine. If you are interested in

Family Medicine Electives
– This program is offered to 4th
year UCI medical students and 4th year

Integrative Medicine –
This program is offered to UCI
residents, 4th year UCI medical students and
4th year extramural students. If you are

Residency Program –
This program offers Volunteer faculty the
opportunity to teach Family Medicine Residents at their
clinical site (FHC-Santa Ana). If you are interested in

If you are interested in teaching begin at step 1.
Step 1: MUST be
endorsed by a UCI Family Medicine Faculty Member -
Faculty member endorsing an individual
to teach one of the above programs must nominate
the prospective faculty to the credential committee
highlighting the individual’s qualifications and
potential responsibilities (See teaching
opportunities above).
Step 2: Complete the
University of California Required application process

will contact you to schedule an appointment to complete
all necessary paperwork.
Note:
MDs’ are required to be Board
Certified. Non-physicians must have a degree in their
field – a state license in this field is required.
Hours of Contribution –
Must teach minimum of 75 hours per
year. Each year the hours contributed by our
volunteer faculty member must be confirmed by the
program coordinator.
Reappointments –
All volunteer faculty members are required to
be reappointed every three years unless scheduled for a
promotion.
Promotions –
Promotions are based on the amount of hours
contributed in teaching over a period of time, scholarly
achievement in the form of publications, prominence in
scientific societies, professional prestige in the
community and/or participation in state or national
medical organizations. These may be considered in
combination with suggested years of teaching
experience. Titles: Clinical Instructor to Assistant
Clinical Professor to Associate Clinical Professor and
final Clinical Professor.
Separations –
A separation occurs when there is no participation
from the volunteer regarding hours and/or non completion
of required paperwork or other circumstances such as a
letter of resignation.
